From November 22 to 24, 2019, at the invitation of the government of the Macau Special Administrative Region, Long Ma went to Macau to perform in commemoration of the 70-year anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China as well as the 20-year anniversary of Macau being reunited with the motherland. This proved to be an important leg on the tour, as it was the first time a road closure had been put up since the inauguration of the Cotai Strip. Long Ma galloped along the Cotai Strip, making history for Macau and creating unforgettable scenes for its residents in the process.
The performances attracted the attention of several tens of thousands of Macau’s residents as well as a large amount of tourists from Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland and abroad. Macau’s Mandarin, Portuguese and English language media all covered the Long Ma performance extensively. The Macau Daily, the highest selling paper among Mandarin language print media in Macau, dedicated not one but two front-page reports to Long Ma. Teledifusão de Macau (TDM) produced a documentary entitled Long Ma, which was officially broadcast during evening prime time on the anniversary of Macau’s return to the Chinese motherland and ended up breaking viewership records. There was a general consensus among Macau’s residents that the performance was ‘absolutely breathtaking’, ‘compelling’ and ‘unforgettable’.
