2015 A Homage to European Opera

Diplomatic relations between the European Union and the People’s Republic of China were first established on May 6, 1975. At the time, the European Economic Community (i.e. the predecessor to the European Union) only had 9 member nations, while China still found itself in the late phase of the Cultural Revolution. At the tail end of their tenure, the first generation of leaders of the newly established People’s Republic of China paved the way for a thawing of relations with the West, causing China to undergo a tremendous transformation in the ensuing 40 years.
