2018 Winland Piano Recital
—— A Piano Recital for Peking University Alumni
The year 2018 marked Peking University’s 120th anniversary. May 5, 2018 saw the hosting of a piano recital for Peking University alumni at Beijing’s Winland International Financial Center. The young German pianist Nina Scheidmantel gave her rendition of the following pieces: Claude Debussy’s magnificently hair-raising suite Pour le piano; Schumann’s narrative piano cycle Papillons, Op. 2; the Das Lebewohl (Les Adieux) sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven, titled after the composer’s war-induced separation from his good friend and patron, the Archduke Rudolph of Austria; Bela Bartok’s Fifteen Hungarian Peasant Songs, derived from rustic folk tunes; the piece by composer Franz Liszt entitled Venezia e Napoli, in which the composer reveals the stunning landscapes and euphoric atmosphere of Naples. During the recital, attended by Peking University alumni and guests from all circles of life, little-known works by these outstanding composers will be performed and elaborated on, thus providing the audience with a unique outlook on some of the world’s greatest composers.
