2016 Sino-French Cultural Forum: Welcome Concert
To
celebrate the first installment of the Sino-French Cultural Forum in 2016,
Winland invited the French violinist Leanard Schreiher, pianist Asia Ijiri,
woodwind player Pierre Génisson as wel as pianist Claudia Yang to perform the
following unique selection of famous Chinese and foreign compositions at the
occasion of its welcome gala:
The Sonata for Piano and Violin No.3 in C
Minor, composed by Edvard Grieg, who gave apt expression to a magical,
Norwegian inspired world, in which he conveys features of medieval Norse tales
and historical legends; Méditation, taken from the opera Thaïs by
composer Jules Massenet, who was hailed as a genius representative of 19th century
French Romanticist music;
Zigeunerweisen by the timeless Spanish
violinist and composer Pablo de Sarasate, a composition which is the splendid
result of the interweaving of soulstirring pathos and intricate violin skills;
Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, FP84, a late
work by the French composer and pianist Francis Poulenc, which commemorates the
old friends with whom the composer formed the collective Les Six;
The Dream of the Red Chamber piano concerto,
based on the famed Chinese composer Wang Liping’s 1987 musical score for the
eponymous TV-series, which afforded said famous literary classic with a novel
artistic expression.
