Winland Summer Concerts

2015 Festival Croisements

—— Winland Summer Concert

In the 6th year of Winland’s participation in the Festival Croisements arts festival, the Sino-French friendship deepened further as people-to-people and artistic exchanges became increasingly intimate. To ring in the summer season, the French Trio Karénine was invited to perform Haydn’s Piano Trio in E Major, Fauré’s Piano Trio in D Minor, as well as Schubert’s Piano Trio in E-flat Major. Haydn’s oeuvre exudes a refreshing and delicate sophistication, and emits an intoxicating ambiance which is at once joyful, vivacious and mesmerizing. Fauré’s chamber pieces give off an air of ingenuity, refinement and sophistication, with some stating that his music, much like the rare commodities being sold along the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, give expression to the elegant and lyrical traditional temperament of French music. Meanwhile, Schubert, in his compositions, emphasizes the use of capricious melodies to portray the fluctuations of the soul, resulting in a composition that is as poetic as it is imaginative.

During this rounded performance by the seasoned French Trio Karénine, the a scintillating ambiance filled the venue, causing the audience to be fully immersed and enchanted to the point of not wanting to leave. Hence, we wish to express our appreciation for the artists. Schubert once said his music was “[...] not a gift offered to some or other person, but rather all those who could find beauty in it could be its proprietor.” May you all become the proprietors of these wonderful melodies!
