—— Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of China-Austria Diplomatic Relations
Winland summer concert was staged in the evening of May 29, at the atrium of Winland International Business Center in Financial Street Beijing. Austrian Ambassador to China Friedrich Stift and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Ma Zhaoxu attended and addressed the event.
Mr. Stift remarked: “Yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of Austria-China diplomatic relations. Culture has been playing a major role in the relations. Back in 1973, the Vienna Philharmonic visited China and staged concerts of Mozart’s and Beethoven’s symphonies in Beijing and Shanghai, which was a gift that Austria presented to China. On January 1 every year, the Vienna New Year Concert will attract numerous Chinese audience and I’m glad that we all could be here tonight on the excellent premise of Winland for a concert of Franz Schubert.”
Mr. Ma Zhaoxu said: “The China-Austria ties are exactly like a symphony. On May 28 fifty years ago, the diplomatic tie was officially established. The 50th anniversary is not only a milestone, but also a new starting point. President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang sent and received congratulatory letters respectively from President Van der Bellen and Prime Minister Sebastian Kurz for this occasion, and the two sides agreed to seize the opportunity of the 50th anniversary to promote the development of the friendly strategic partnership between the two countries and express heartfelt gratitude to all who have made outstanding contributions to the friendship between China and Austria. Wish you all an pleasant music night.”
Oesterreichische Nationalbank kindly provided a violin made by the renowned Italian luthier Camillo Camilli in 1763.
At the concert, pianists Claudia Yang and Patrick Lechner and violinist Tymur Melnyk respectively performed for the audience Das Wondern from Die schöne Müllerin, Der Tod und das Mädchen, Der Lindenbaum from Winterreise, Soirees de Vienna rearranged by Franz Liszt, Fantasia in F minor, Op.103 D940, and Wanderer Fantasy in C Major, Op. 15. As encore, the artistics sang I Love You China together and soprano Chen Xiaoduo also sang an improvised song.
