Introduction to the Blanc de Chine Project
The term ‘CHINA’ at once can refer to a vessel, a commodity, a handicraft and a work of art. Meanwhile, the term is also eponymous with China, the country.
China is a nation of ‘ceramics’; ‘ceramics’ symbolize the nation of China. They play a connecting role between China and the world. Having traversed the ‘Continental Silk Road’to the sound of camel bells, crossed the ‘Maritime Silk Road’ to the sound of crashing waves, and having become eponymous with the country of China after being passed on through thousands of years of oral tradition, ceramics have come to embody the erudite and profound civilization and charm of this nation.
Blanc de Chine or ‘Chinese white’ refers to China’s globally influential and recognizable ‘whiteware’. Throughout the history of aesthetics, ‘Chinese white’ has enjoyed a unique position, owing to its pristine whiteness and flawlessless. It’s simple elegant and dignified looks are a symbol of the literary and artistic character of the Chinese people.
In order to safeguard, perpetuate and carry forward this splendid chapter in history, and to give impetus to Chinese ceramic art as it embarks on its newfound path of experimentation and innovation, Winland Group has donated funds to establish a non-profit philanthropic organization called ‘Quanzhou Porcelain Road Art Development Center’. Its aim is to boost international exchanges related to contemporary ceramic art, as well as smooth the way for the integrative and innovative development of ceramic art and contemporary art.
The project is comprised of the “Blanc de Chine” International Ceramic Art Award, the “Blanc de Chine” International Art Residency project and the “Blanc de Chine” International Forum.
